Karim Lagati is a set designer whose passion for cinema began in his teenage years through a local film club in Vaulx-en-Velin. Before working on films set, he gained some experience in theaters by performing with small companies and participating in festivals.

He later lived in Berlin and traveled widely in South America, Asia, and West Africa, before settling in Paris and joining set design teams, leveraging his family’s background in carpentry and antiques.
In 2009, Karim worked as an assistant decorator on Jacques Audiard‘s film called Un Prophète. He later worked on short films and corporate movies.

In 2016, an old friend called him for help with a film in Lyon. Karim’s assistance impressed the producer, leading him to his role as the production designer for Berni Goldblat’s film Wallay, which gained international recognition. His third film, Ladj Ly’s Les Misérables, received numerous awards and nominations worldwide.

In 2023, Karim reunited with Ladj Ly for the film Bâtiment 5, where he once again showcased his attention to detail and creativity. Passionate about stories and history, Karim meticulously recreates different eras, from antiquity to the 1950s, driven by an insatiable curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring various cinematic genres.
