Camarades, with production design by Mathé, ADC, will be available on ARTE from September 16. Produced by Agat Films, Sunday Afternoon and ARTE France, and directed by Dominique Baumard and Benjamin Charbit, the series is set in the aftermath of May ’68, when the experimental University of Vincennes becomes a centre of political and intellectual upheaval. At the heart of the story is Claudine, who infiltrates a Maoist group on behalf of the French intelligence services and finds herself caught between radical ideas, activism and shifting loyalties. Directed by Eloy Enciso Cachafeiro, the film explores the lingering traces of Spain’s Francoist repression through Elsa, a photographer documenting places marked by this history while researching the correspondence of two lovers separated during the final days of the Spanish Civil War.
