We are delighted to welcome Jimmy Gimferrer, a talented Director of Photography, to the Operandi team.

Raised in Spain despite his French origins, Jimmy’s path to becoming a renowned director of photography was anything but conventional. While studying Fine Arts in Barcelona, he befriended Albert Serra, and together they ventured into filmmaking with Crespià: The Film, Not the Village in 2002, paving the way for the success of Honor de Cavalleria, which was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006.

After two years dedicated to studying cinematography, his talent shone through in El Cant dels Ocells, earning him the Gaudí Prize for Best Cinematography in 2008 and a selection at the Cannes Film Festival. His career continued to flourish with Aita (2009), which won Best Cinematography at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.

His career continued with films like Histoire de ma mort (Albert Serra), Stella Cadente (Lluís Miñarro), Born (Claudio Zulian), and Once Upon a Time in the West (Boris Despodov), followed by El Vent és això (Pere Villà), Hotel Splendid (Pedro Aguilera), Oasis of Now (Chee Sum Chia), Tiger Stripes (Amanda Nell Eu), The Bog (Reinis Kalvins), and Emergency Exit (Lluís Miñarro).

Known for his masterful use of natural light and composition, Jimmy approaches each project with humility and intuition, ensuring his lighting seamlessly enhances the narrative. His distinctive style has made him one of the most sought-after cinematographers today.
