We are thrilled to welcome Teresa Hurtado Escobar, a talented Franco-Peruvian production designer, to the Operandi team.

Teresa’s artistic journey is deeply influenced by her rich cultural heritage. She began her studies in Fine Arts in Lima before continuing at the Sorbonne in Paris. Her passion for art direction and design led her to Buenos Aires, where she worked on a variety of projects, including short films, commercials, and her first feature, El Candidato (2015).

In 2016, Teresa returned to France, where a fortuitous meeting with Alma Labarthe opened the door to collaborating with the renowned production designer François-Renaud Labarthe. This partnership saw her quickly rise from third assistant to key contributor, notably on the BBC series The Serpent. Through this collaboration, Teresa not only enriched her professional skills but also embraced personal growth, including learning meditation alongside her colleagues.

Her work with esteemed production designers like Stéphane Perazzi and Matthieu Beutter further refined her craft, leading her to contribute to TV series like Cuisine Interne and Netflix’s Supersex. Yet, Teresa’s true passion lies in cinema, where she finds immense motivation in creating films with a powerful message.

Among her most significant projects is La Mer Au Loin, directed by Saïd Hamich. It was her second feature film, offering her a platform to collaborate closely with a director who valued her creative input. Teresa’s heart thrives in projects that are driven by strong narratives and meaningful themes.

In 2024, Teresa worked on two remarkable films. She lent her expertise to Santi Zegarra’s Pucallpa, La Europea, a poignant exploration of social divides and taboos through a love story between a trans woman from the margins of society and a man from a wealthy background. The same year, she also contributed to Francisco Lombardi’s El Corazón del Monstruo, which tells the gripping story of an Ashaninka child kidnapped by the Shining Path and raised by them in the 1990s.

Drawing inspiration from her eclectic love for films, from gothic tales like Dracula to sci-fi and fantasy, Teresa brings intricate details to every set, transforming scripts into vibrant, visually captivating cinematic worlds. Her background in painting allows her to seamlessly collaborate with directors and cinematographers, enhancing every scene with subtle yet powerful touches.
